Your smile is one of your best features and it sets you apart from others. It’s often the first thing other people notice about you when you meet. If your smile is less than perfect, you may want to consult with your dentist to help you resolve any dental issues you would like fixed. We want to ensure that you have a healthy smile that last a lifetime.
Unfortunately, even with all the good oral health care techniques at your employ, whitening products to brighten your smile, and cosmetic dentistry procedures offered by your dentist, your smile might not be what you’d like it to be. But, could the problem be less related to your teeth and more related to your surrounding skin? If you have smile lines and wrinkles, you might become self-conscious when smiling. And, you might not know where to go for help with those lines. The good news is Twin Dental is here to help you reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles to encourage a more beautiful smile and allow you to feel more comfortable in your own skin. It’s called Juvederm, and it can change your life.
What is Juvederm?
As you age, your skin becomes thinner and looser because your skin naturally loses moisture. While it’s different for everyone, this typically begins to happen around the time a person reaches their 30s. Skin loses moisture and natural elasticity, and you begin to notice more fine lines and wrinkles. This can cause us to feel self-conscious because we look older than we feel.
Juvederm is an injectable fluid that your dentist, dermatologist, or cosmetic surgeon may use to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines in your face. It encourages more youthful and beautiful skin, which makes you want to smile more and show it off as a result. Juvederm uses hyaluronic acid, which is already naturally produced in your body, to plump up your skin by creating more elasticity. If you’re using skin care products designed to slow the aging process, you may have already noticed many of them contain hyaluronic acid. After getting Juvederm, you see results immediately upon use and they typically last for eight months to a full year.
Why is my dentist offering injectables?
Many plastic/cosmetic surgeons, dermatologists, and even nurses have their own practices offering fillers and other injectables, so why not your dentist? Your dentist has the education, the knowledge, and the expertise with facial health to provide this service to patients. Also, it’s great way to kill two birds with one stone. You can schedule your dental exam, hygiene cleaning and Juvederm to be completed at the same visit!
At Twin Dental, the main goal and priority of our staff is to help patients achieve their best smile by way of good oral health. Offering fillers in a safe and healthy environment is an additional way we like to help our patients feel confident and enjoy showing off their smiles. We feel we have the responsibility to care for your entire face, not just your mouth!
The Process
Once you make the decision to use fillers to improve the skin around your mouth, the first thing you want to do is speak to your dentist about it. Your dental professional is here to help you determine if you are a good candidate, what areas to focus on, and explain the process to you. It’s a relatively simple process that does not take much time but does have almost instant results.
All you need to do is ask your dental office to schedule an appointment for this procedure. You can even schedule it for the same time as your upcoming dental cleaning. The team preps you over the course of a few minutes when you arrive, and they explain to you what happens. Next, your dentist will numb the areas where you are receiving the injections. The numbing you receive for dental work is actually the same that is required for fillers.
The injections are then placed into your skin at the predetermined areas. How many you need depends on how extensive the wrinkles on your face have become as well as where you want them on your skin. Once the injections are done, you are free to leave and should not experience any major discomfort.
The process is simple and streamlined, although there are a few things you should know and keep in mind the first 24 to 36 hours after your injections. Do not exercise, do not expose your skin to sunlight or heat, and do not consume any alcoholic beverages in this time. If you do not follow this advice, your skin will turn red, swell, and it might begin to itch. Furthermore, you need to speak to your dentist about how long you should go without makeup before reapplying.
Do I need more than one injection?
Every patient is different, but you might need more than one injection at a time for the best results. You might even need to make several appointments for injections to get the best results once your skin changes and you see how it looks. This is not a permanent solution to wrinkles and fines lines, either. If you eat a healthy diet, stay hydrated, and you treat your skin with care, your results could last up to a year, however. Most people need a new injection around nine months after their first.
If you experience any pain or problems following your injections, call your dentist right away. The best thing to do in the meantime is place an ice pack on the area to keep any redness, swelling, and itching at bay. This happens if you’re not careful with the instructions the dentist gives you following the injections.
